Adam's Peak
Sri Lanka’s Adam's Peak is a famous pilgrimage route of 7km that starts from Dalhousie right up to the summit of the mountain. The trail looks like it leads all the way up to heaven, the climb usually starts at around 2am and takes anywhere from 3-4 hours to get to the top, you have to climb about 5200 steps. During pilgrimage season the trail is decorated with ribbons and lights that shine at night creating a truly magical atmosphere.
The pathway has little tea houses all the way to the summit, some of which are open even at night, there’s a beautiful arch at the entrance and the Japan–Sri Lanka Friendship Dagoba. The trail gets steeper and much more challenging as you move up. Things like alcohol, tobacco, meat, and modern music are not allowed which makes the place really peaceful and quiet. The atmosphere is ideal for watching the sunrise at about 6:30 am, for meditating, or simply enjoying the stunning view of the horizon.
