The Batman Bridge is a unique and iconic structure located in Tasmania, Australia. The bridge was named after John Batman (A co-founder of Melbourne not the legendary super hero- but the kids sure seem to find joy pretending it’s the latter! This whopping piece of infrastructure spans over the Tamar River in Launceston and is Tasmania tallest bridge! Standing approximately 96 metres high, from the bottom of the A-frame base to the top it with footing that’s sunken 59 feet deep into clay beneath. The bridge was built between 1966 and 1968, it was the first cable-stayed bridge in Australia and among the first such bridges in the world. The 1970s had it involved in some drama with a man asking for assistance to heave a heavy bag over the edge- which contained his mother! Besides a little piece of 70s grim news attached to it- It is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Tasmania.
