Châteaux Versailles
Located 20km from Paris, the Châteaux de Versailles is one of France’s most treasured monuments. The palace was built by the kings of Versailles as a royal residence, it covers about 787 hectares (1,945 acres) surrounded by splendid gardens. The Châteaux has a whooping 2,300 rooms, with 100 containing displays of paintings and sculptures representing French art and history. The building also hosts the French Parliament and serves as a museum and a national historical building.
Aside from the extensive collection of art by Louis-Philippe, there’s also the Queen’s Hamlet built by Marie Antoinette and the Queen’s Theatre which has remained intact since 1780. Around the palace there are other structures built by the king to get some privacy away from court. For instance the Grand Trianon with its spectacular pink marble and the Hall of Mirrors with its 357 mirrors.
