Climb Dunes Erg Chebbi
Famous for being the largest and highest sand dunes of Morocco, the Erg Chebbi is a series of strange and fascinating sand dunes. Spreading across 200 km2 and measuring a whopping 150 in height, these dunes seem to pop off from nowhere on a rather flat surrounding. The mystery around the dunes has fueled many legends over centuries in an attempt to explain their existence. The sand dunes fluctuate from orange to pink, apricot, and other shades depending on the lighting, this makes watching the sunrise or set behind these dunes a life-changing experience.
Merzouga as it is known by the locals is one of the gems of the vast Sahara desert, it is remote but visitors get there by train from Casablanca through some of the most stunning Mediterranean atlas mountains outside of Europe. Merzouga is a tiny base village from which the hike begins, Erg Chebbi is 5 kilometres away. Get ready to be blown away by phenomenal 150 meters high dunes stretching over 20 km.
