Dana Biosphere Reserve
Jordan’s Dana Reserve is perched on the edge of a spectacular gorge with peaks as high as 1,600m. This scenery of unending orange cliffs, great rift valleys, sandstone canyons, and rich wildlife make up the epic Dana Reserve which covers three eco zones from the Arabian plains of Wadi Rum to the Mediterranean and Africa. The Dana Reserve spans 320 square kilometres of raw beauty with landscapes ranging from cliffs of limestone, sandstone, and granite.
This varying topography and rich flora and fauna are every birdwatcher’s paradise. Dana Reserve is the migratory route for bird species from Africa, Asia and Europe. Birds like caracals and over 200 other exotic species, culturally, Dana village is also full of wonders. Experts believe this settlement dates as far back as Palaeolithic times some 6,000 years.Tourists walk by the colorful stone walls, past houses that blend with the rugged cliffs, terraces that seem to pop out of canyons, and houses that feel like going back to Bible times.
