By theleaf.app On 17 Dec 2021

The French Quarter is New Orleans’ heartbeat, built by the French in an attempt to control trade along the Mississippi River; it has become a rich hub of history and culture. The French called it ‘’Vieux Carre’’ which means ‘Old Square’,over the years, New Orleans has been under the administration of the French and the Spanish, before becoming part of the USA. Most of its architecture has Spanish influences but the culture is most certainly French. Famous for jazz music, Cajun restaurants, smoky bars, colorful buildings with hanging balconies, and a vibrant nightlife with Bourbon Street being the epicenter of the French Quarter.

There’s also the French Market with lots of local artists, fortune tellers, craftsmen, gourmet food, and talented street performers. Other famous spots are the St. Louis Cathedral and the statue of Andrew Jackson. The French Quarter is the city’s cultural hub, with charming old buildings, steamboat cruises, street music, and old cemeteries. Take a closer look at the 1840 constructed Pontalba Buildings which is said to be the oldest rented apartments in the US. While St Louis Cathedral is the oldest cathedral in the country.

New Orleans’ French Quarter is the most famous and vibrant neighborhood in the state, it is always buzzing with street parties, jazz clubs, and bars. There’s so much to explore in the jewel of New Orleans as it is often called.
