Isla de Ometepe
An impressive Island with twin peaks that inspired the Aztecs and Mark Twain, Nicaragua's Isla de Ometepe is a natural wonder of epic proportions. The Island has rich wildlife, fertile volcanic soil, vast beaches, and dramatic landscapes. Ometepe is a paradise of raw and untouched natural beauty, thanks to the fact that it is remote and off the beaten track. The Island is an archeologists' greatest fantasy. The two volcanoes Maderas and Concepcion, erupt regularly and shape the flora and fauna as well as the landscape of the region.
Ometepe Island is a UNESCO protected Biosphere Reserve primarily because of its unique wetlands and tropical rainforests. Some of its inhabitants you can spot are the White-headed Capuchins dangling on fruit trees and the Yellow-naped Parrots. Visitors can go hiking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and so much more at the eco-lodges surrounding Ometepe Island. The Island also has a history of pirates since it is secluded, rich and naturally beautiful, with pristine beaches and many fruit trees waiting to be plundered.
