Kicking Horse Grizzly Bear Refuge

Sad story behind this big grizzly and why he doesn't live in the wild. Once a wild cub tragically, this beautiful grizzly sadly lost his mother at the hand of a poacher in June 2002, leaving him and his brother orphaned and defenceless at just five months of age. The cubs were given a second chance at life and a new home at the Kicking Horse Grizzly Bear Refuge. We as a family are all about the conservation of animals and do not promote zoos that don't endorse this; kicking horse mountain resort is a beautiful case of Grizzly Bear conservation. Although the photos look like he is living caged in - this big grizzly known as "Boo" hunts, plays, forages and explores within this natural mountainside habitat just like his wild cousins, his carers raising him as close to being in the wild as they are able. It was truly an incredible experience to learn about grizzly bear conservation and see a grizzly up close! This was such a fantastic day in the Canadian mountains and definitely one of the highlights of our Canadian adventure! Having been driven up the mountain to see Boo, we presumed we would be driven back down; however, to our surprise found out we were getting an open-air chair lift back down the mountain…. 34 weeks pregnant and a toddler in tow! Oh, what an experience this was going to be! Well, didn't harry get a laugh when he watched the chair lift come around, which to a heavily pregnant woman deemed to be incredibly difficult and, might I add, very fast to try and jump on! Harry holding Freddy with a tight grip and me making the jump on the seat, we took in the panoramic views of the mountain, and a day we didn't think could get any better just was made exceptional.
