Matterhorn
The Matterhorn in Switzerland is said to be the most-photographed mountain in the world, this pyramid shaped mountain of epic proportions has claimed the lives of several alpinists who tried to climb it. It has earned a reputation for being very difficult to climb. The Matterhorn was isolated until 1865 when someone succeeded in getting to the top. Next to the Matterhorn is the Klein-Matterhorn, a smaller and more accessible mountain from which you can view the Matterhorn in all its glory. Both mountains are separated by a glacier at a place called Theodul Pass.
Visitors can take a cable car to the mountain station situated in the heart of the Alps at 3820 meters above sea level. The views from here are fantastic, everywhere you look, you are surrounded by a glacier paradise. At the foot of the mountain there’s an inn called the Matterhorn mountain inn where you can mingle with tourists, and alpinists.
The are a wide variety of activities visitors can indulge in around the Matterhorn,
the ski resort is open 365 days a year, the Matterhorn Museum explains the historic development of the region, visitors can also go on an excursion to Gornergrat, where there is a viewing platform with some of the most unforgettable scenic spots in the country. The Matterhorn has so much to offer any adventurer that comes to its shores.
