Medina of Fez
Travel through history as you visit the Medina of Fez. An ancient hub for philosophers, theologians, mathematicians, and all sorts of scholars, Fez Medina was a city of power for close to 300 years. Located in the lowlands of the Middle Atlas mountain ranges of northern Morocco, the city of Fez has a long history of being a cultural and spiritual melting pot. Craftsmen came to Fez to build palaces, mosques, and religious schools known as Medersas. Merchants brought in exotic wares and spices from the sub-Saharan trade routes and the silk road which all made Fez Medina flourish during what was known as the golden age.
Today, as you walk down the streets of the old Fez Medina, the remnants of its past glory are still very visible. Modern-day Medina is full of little alleyways leading to old structures with wooden doors that are now tanneries, shops, and houses. During the day, men sit on stools outside making copper pots, and all kinds of spectacular wares. Old medina might have lost its fortune, power, and influence in the hands of past sultans and the French during colonialism, but it certainly hasn’t lost its charm.
Travel through the Fez Medina to explore what was once a thriving city, and is now a beautiful relic.
