Mendenhall Glacier
800 metres wide, with ice up to 548 metres deep, the Mendenhall Glacier is one to put in your adventure collection! Not only one of the most picturesque glaciers in North America but also one of the most accessible. You can enjoy the breathtaking glacier from the viewing platform, and if you visit from July through to September, you may be lucky enough to see a black bear fishing for his salmon breakfast!
For those experienced kayakers, an incredible adventure awaits you that will have you kayaking near the icebergs! And for us less experienced, who don't want to risk falling into icy cold water! - There are guided canoe tours or a boat cruise where you also have the opportunity to spot some of Alaska's whales! Perhaps you want to get a dramatic view from above? Why not take in a birds-eye view from a helicopter? Or for a completely surreal experience, you can even take a guided tour and walk on top of glacier and into the ice caves! But the adventure doesn't stop there, with hiking trails along the Mendall hall lake where you'll see a breathtaking 115-metre waterfall gushing into an iceberg lake with the extraordinary glacier in the background.
With so much adventure at your fingertips, be sure to do your research before visiting this magnificent icy piece of mother nature!
