Neuschwanstein Castle
Does the idea of a medieval castle perched at the top of a hill in the Alps surrounded by magnificent landscapes sound like a fairytale? Well, it's not just in Disney movies, such a place exists in real life and it is the Neuschwanstein Castle. Located in Bavaria, Germany overlooking the Hohenschwangau valley, this castle with its extremely beautiful landscape is simply amazing.
It was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria in honor of the great composer Richard Wagner, King Ludwig’s admiration for Wagner was so great he dedicated many rooms in the castle to the composer and his opera characters inspired other rooms. The third floor for example has a room called ‘’The Singers Hall’’. Even the name Neuschwanstein translates as “New Swan Castle” which is a reference to the ‘’Swan Knight ``, a character from one of Wagner’s compositions.
Neuschwanstein is a castle of paradox, the outside looks like a typical medieval castle while the inside is equipped with state of the art modern technology. The contrast between modern technology and medieval structures is quite impressive, you won’t be disappointed.
