Pamir Highway
The Pamir highway is a mountainous road of extremely high altitudes stretching through Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan. A rugged terrain with magnificent views, fascinating cultures and traditions, ancient religions, and great hospitality. Pamir highway is what you’ll call the back roads of the back road, the landscapes are uncompromising but unbelievably beautiful.
Follow the rocky road to Iskander Kul navigating your way through shepherds and their goats in the middle of the road, be ready to navigate some of the most stony terrain you have ever seen. The rugged roads on such high altitudes is such an experience, the view you have of the valleys, the rivers, lakes as they reflect light from the blazing sun, small villages and remote settlements along the ride is like looking down from the top of the world. Pamir used to be part of the Soviet Union which means every now and then you have a glimpse of Russian influence in the lives of the locals as well as the architecture. A drive on the Pamir highway is truly a rewarding journey but one very few people are privileged enough to make.
