Picos de Europa National Park
Shaped by over 300 million years of mixed civilizations, the Picos de Europa National Park is a landscape of vast mountains, crystal-clear waters, and green valleys with trees and meadows. This stunning scenery houses a huge historical, cultural, and artistic significance. Here you will enjoy a rare fauna and natural scenery found only in Spain. You can see how close the coast is from its heights of up to 2,650 meters, with points where the sea is just 15 kilometers away.
Back in the first and second centuries BC Celtic tribes settled on these mountains, later it was occupied by the Asturian people who were shielded from their enemies by these mountains.
If you're fortunate, you may be able to spot several animals in the national park. Famous sightings include the majestic golden eagle, which soars above the mountains, or the chamois with its impressive horns, which hides in the rocky mountains. In the caves, there are also bats, owls, deer, and wild boar. In the waters fish abound from trout to otters, and salmon, as well as water snakes and alpine newts.
