Plitvice Lakes National Park
The Plitvice Lakes National Park, is the most popular attraction in Croatia, this park consists of a dense natural forest, 16 mineral-rich lakes, a bunch of jaw-dropping waterfalls, pathways, and picturesque wooden footbridges. These crystalline lakes are beautifully inter-connected by waterfalls and cascades. The National Park covers a surface area of 300 square kilometres with dense forest gruelling with bears, boars, deer, wolves, and rare birds. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979 and is a must-see in Croatia.
To explore this natural wonder, visitors can take a bus, a free boat or wander around on foot. The park's largest lake is the Kozjak which is about 4km-long and culminates at a waterfall called Veliki Slap. The way the upper lakes flow into the lower ones through cascades is mind blowing. The Plitvice Lakes offer an amazing opportunity for incredible photos, you need at least four hours to explore the lower and upper lakes, a bus right might reduce the length of the journey but Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of those experiences that cannot be rushed, it must be savoured. It should be noted that swimming in any of the lakes is strictly forbidden.
