Sumida Hokusai Museum
Katsushika Hokusai is a highly celebrated Japanese artist who painted a series of landscape prints depicting Mount Fuji that you will be enchanted to see. Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji show different angles of Mount Fuji: the view from several locations and across different seasons and weather conditions.
Hokusai’s work was a great success, his vivid depiction of Mount Fuji during a thunderstorm, a dramatic cloudy sky, red lightning bolts,and summer skies is epic. Even today Katsushika Hokusai is still considered one of the world's most creative artists, with great sensitivity and perception towards nature and humanity.
His work is displayed in Obuse, a small town north-west of Tokyo, Japan. Hokusai spent his last years in these hills painting. Some of his most respected work was done here in Obuse. Displayed in a museum named after him, a collection of his most prodigious art can be explored in all quietness. Popular pieces such as A Plum Tree and Two Beauties (1799), or two geishas sharing a secret are single handedly worth the trip to Japan.
