Svalbard
Svalbard is at the northernmost part of the globe, about as north as Greenland, and is a spectacular place to explore. This far north there’s only ice and, of course, polar bears if you are lucky enough to spot them. In addition to polar bears which the locals call ‘’isbjorn’’, Svalbard has whales, reindeers, and the rather rare arctic fox.
Unlike the polar bears, the whales are not at all shy, they jump out of the water at every given opportunity and flip their tails in the air, putting on quite a show. The reindeers are everywhere, they’re part of the landscape here, more like cows and other domestic animals in these parts. The highlight of any trip to Svalbard is bear sighting, these bears are special and rare, they’re animals very few people get the privilege of seeing in their lifetime.
Visit Longyearbyen, Svalbard Church, Gallery Svalbard, Svalbard Museum, and The North Pole Expedition Museum. Delight in a collection of Paintings Kåre Tveter, a famous Norwegian painter, historical maps, books and banknotes. Attend church and then have coffee and waffles with the locals and hear some of the epic stories about Svalbard that you can take home and share with your friends.
