Swiss National Park
Established in 1914,the Swiss National Park is the oldest in the Alps, it occupies an area of over 170 square kilometers, 80 kilometers of which are hiking paths, nature trails, and scenic spots. The park registers at least 150,000 visitors every year all wanting to experience a piece of this natural paradise. In order to protect the park’s biodiversity, visitors are not allowed to stray from the trails. From Scuol, S-chanf and Zernez to Ofen Pass and Val Müstair there’s enough to see and do without having to step out of the designated zones. Visitors can join any of the many guided excursions or explore the park solo.
At the Swiss National Park, you can be sure to see ibexes, marmots, chamois, golden eagles, bearded vultures and many other animal, bird and plant species.
The Zernez visitors’ centre offers exhibitions, information, and guidelines, and park regulations to visitors. Feel free to immerse yourself in the wonders of the Swiss Alps and the surrounding lowlands, hike to Val Cluozza to see herds of grazing chamois, or stop at the mountain cabin in Chamanna Cluozza where you can see the footprints of a 220-million-year-old fossilised dinosaur on a rock. That alone is enough reason for you to catch the next flight to Switzerland.
