Tallinn Old Town
Tallinn is regarded as the best preserved medieval city in Northern Europe, Old Town Tallinn in particular is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by enchanting Gothic architecture, cobblestone streets, medieval churches, museums, galleries, and a 13th century city plan, Tallinn Old Town is exactly as it was in medieval times.
Tallinn used to be a town for wealthy merchants from Denmark,Germany and other parts of Europe in the Middle Ages, making it full of merchant houses, warehouses, and barns, most of them still intact today. Some have been transformed into shops, restaurants, bars and cafés without losing their original charm. Tallinn has a thriving touristic life and a vibrant nightlife. Some of the must-see in this mesmerising city are the Raekoja Plats, or Town Hall Square. This is a Gothic building that stands as the heart of the Old City. Next is St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, a bright colored Orthodox cathedral, and Saint Olaf’s Church which was the tallest building in Europe during the Middle Ages.
A trip to Tallinn cannot be complete without a visit to the Danish King’s Garden, or a panoramic view of the entire city from Toompea Hill, Kiek in de Kök museum, and an exploration of Estonian cuisine.
