The Pantheon
One of Rome's architectural wonders, the Pantheon of Agrippa, famously called the Roman Pantheon, is the best-preserved structure from ancient Rome. The present day Pantheon was built in the year 126 A.D. in replacement of the 27 B.C. one that was destroyed in a fire. The building was constructed in a unique way with the same diameter as its height. It has a dome with a 9-meter-diameter opening at the top that allows natural light into the entire structure.
The Pantheon was transformed into a church by Pope Boniface IV many years ago and it has remained the same ever since. Preserving its ancient grandeur and facade. From outside you can see 16 imposing columns made from granite and the 14 meters tall majestic dome. The interior has a large collection of great art works and the tombs of Italian kings. This is also where Raphael, the painter and Renaissance architect, is buried. The Pantheon has a lot to offer especially if you are an architecture enthusiast, a fan of European history and art.
