Turkish Coast On Lycian Way
A long-distance trail of rustic Mediterranean coastlines, stunning mountains, ancient ruins, dramatic beaches, Turkish villages and resort towns. The Lycian Way is a world-class destination; the trail is made up of several footpaths like the famous 500km climb of the St Paul trail or the 820km Carian Trail. It typically takes a 29-day trek to cover the entire area from the starting point of the tourist town of Fethiye all the way to Antalya.
This stretch is a mind-blowing display of rugged Mediterranean mountain cliffs, beaches, sea, olive-grove-dotted foothills, and a backcountry full of Turkish culture. Discover the seat of the Lycian League at Patara, which is said to be the world’s first parliament, dating back to the Roman Empire. Explore ancient Lake Baga with its Neolithic cave paintings, get carried away by the sheer beauty of seaside holiday towns such as Kalkan and Kaş.
If hiking for long periods is not for you, cut through using dolmuş minibuses, spend your days at chosen spots and your nights at any of the numerous inns, guesthouses, and pensions along the trail. Stop at the famous Butterfly Valley with its thousands of colourful Jersey tiger-moths, grab lunch at Ӧlüdeniz, Faralya, and don’t forget to tour the local villages to experience local farms and traditional beekeeping.
