Udawalawe National Park
Udawalawe National Park was created in 1972 as a sanctuary for the wildlife displaced as a result of the construction of Sri Lanka’s Udawalawe Reservoir. Home to elephants, leopards, crocodiles, buffalos, deer, and exotic birds. This 308 square kilometer animal paradise is considered the only national park that rivals the reserves in Africa. Udawalawe National Park is Sri Lanka’s third largest national park.
The highlight of the park is its elephants, people come from all over to watch them and take photos. Udawalawe is an ideal spot for an elephant safari. Other animals you can be sure to spot at the Udawalawe National Park are crocodiles and peacocks.
Leopards are also a huge part of the park’s appeal, however, they are quite elusive so you can never be sure you’ll see them. A visit to Udawalawe National Park is bound to be exciting and full of adventures you’re not likely to forget any time soon.
